European Summer School

Datum:11.06.17 - 01.07.17
Ort:Lausanne | Zürich

The Swiss Study Foundation is organising a European Campus of Excellence summer school on “Energy Systems in Transition and Sustainable Mobility“ from 11th June to 1st of July 2017 in Switzerland. The course will take place at the EPF Lausanne and ETH Zürich. We invite 30 excellent bachelor and master students from all over Europe to particpat.

Participants will be exposed, through lectures, practical sessions and active participation to existing research projects as well as to the main techno- and macro-economic modeling tools available to design energy systems. They will also simulate scenarios and assess energy and climate policies. In the field of sustainable mobility the following topics will be covered: environmental impacts of personal mobility, of freight transportation as well as of different transportation technologies and settlement types, interactions between mobility and other energy sectors, current developments in e-mobility and battery development, mobility patterns and mobility behavior, and CO2 reduction in mobility.

The topics will be discussed from an interdisciplinary perspective. The summer school will enable students to share knowledge and learn from each other as well as from experts in the field. It provides a unique setting for students to collaborate and to build a network across Europe. Awareness for the challenge of our future energy supply will be raised, a better understanding of the energy issues will be encouraged, and global solutions to meet the challenges will be discussed. In addition to the lectures and practical sessions, visits to energy facilities as well as to research institutes are planned.

Speakers will be among others

  • Dr. Alejandro Santis, BFH-CSEM Energy Storage Research Centre, Bern University of Applied Sciences
  • Prof. Andrea Vezzini, Head of the BFH-CSEM Energy Storage Research Centre, Bern University of Applied Sciences
  • Christian Bach, Head of Automotive Powertrain Technologies Laboratory, Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and TechnologyFriedel Bachmann, Institute of Social and Business Psychology, University of Zurich
