Investigation of cardiopulmonary testing and training protocols using a dynamic leg press device.

Leg-press machines are widely used for musculoskeletal conditioning of the lower-limbs and provide cardiovascular benefits for resistance training in cardiac patients. After a short introduction about rehabilitation robots, this talk will describe the feasibility of a dynamic leg press (DLP) for incremental cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) and exercise training. The results are then compared with those obtained using a cycle ergometer (CE).


Farouk Chrif was born in 1985 in Tetouan, Morocco, where he received his Bachelor and Master degrees in mechanical engineering. Since 2015 he has been a PhD student at the Institute for Rehabilitation and Performance Technology at Bern University of Applied Sciences in Burgdorf, in collaboration with the ARTORG Center for Biomedical Engineering Research at the University of Bern. His research focuses on the development and evaluation of a lower-limb rehabilitation robot.
