International Relations

Internationalization is widely being recognized to play an important role for the higher education institutions, for their students and their future employers as well as for the economy of a country. In more than one goal of the Bologna declaration, these facts are accounted for. The signatory states are called to develop means to enhance their commitment in internationalization of their higher education institutions.

In this strategy, internationalization is understood as covering the whole extent of activities that help all stakeholders of BUAS-TI to meet this commitment. A major part of it is the international relations. BUAS-TI is committed to maintain, encourage and develop its international relations. Developing internationalization is also a core task based on legal documents that govern the Universities of Applied Sciences and BUAS-TI, respectively.

Internal and external activities and services related to internationalization do not only concern students and professors, but the BUAS-TI as a whole institution. All stakeholders of the institution are therefore called to help fulfill the goals of internationalization.

External activities

External activities consist in encouraging internationalization, developing and maintaining international relations and networking. Partners of BFH-TI will be other Universities, Research Centers, international bodies and organizations (IEEE, ISO community, EU commission, to name a few). They all improve the research opportunities and the renown of BUAS-TI. Networking plays an important role in external activities and requires high competences both from the scientific and from the communication point of view.

Internal activities

Internal activities and services aim at helping students, staff members and professors to take advantage of existing international contacts. There are several types of internal activities:

  • Students and professors receive practical information and support for international exchanges or educational trips (student exchange, sabbatical, etc). To setup these activities and to establish new contacts, high level skills are required. It is the goal that once the procedures are clear and the contacts are established, many of these activities will be under the responsibility of an International Office carrying out daily activities (personal contacts, emails, etc).

  • Professors and researchers receive information concerning international research activities, EU-programs, links with other research centers and organizations, etc. These activities require specialized skills and are carried out in close relation to the BUAS-TI research committee.

  • Communication within BUAS-TI: Activities in internationalization are to be made avail-able for all concerned. It includes regular information to students and professors, collecting information from professors about their own contacts etc. Keeping a website updated is an important factor in communication.
  • Internationalization at BUAS-TI needs to be carried out in close collaboration with the existing "Kommission Internationales der BFH". In this committee, BUAS-TI can make useful contributions helpful to push the concept of internationalization there.
